In an unimaginable tragedy that has shocked the nation, three young sisters were found dead in Washington State earlier this week, sparking a manhunt for their father, who is suspected of murdering them in a gruesome act of domestic violence.
On May 30, 2025, Whitney Decker reported her three daughters — Paityn Decker, 9, Evelyn Decker, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5 — missing after they failed to return home from a scheduled custody visit with their father, Travis Caleb Decker, 32. After several unanswered calls and a missed return deadline, her growing concern turned to horror.
On June 2, the bodies of the three girls were discovered near the Rock Island Campground, about 10 miles southeast of Wenatchee. According to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, the children were zip-tied and suffocated with plastic bags. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation.
Authorities believe the father, Travis Decker — a U.S. Army veteran with survivalist skills — may be hiding in the wilderness. His abandoned truck was found near the area where the bodies were discovered. The Pacific Crest Trail and surrounding campgrounds have been shut down as search efforts intensify, with the Washington National Guard now assisting in the operation.
“He is considered extremely dangerous,” said Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison. “We’re doing everything we can to bring him to justice.”
The case has also raised serious questions about the failure to issue an Amber Alert despite police requests. Investigators believe such an alert might have increased the chances of saving the girls’ lives.
Travis Decker has since been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree kidnapping. A nationwide warrant is in effect, and authorities have offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
The tragedy has left the community heartbroken. Vigils have been held throughout the state, and a GoFundMe campaign for the girls’ mother has raised over $1 million in just a few days, with people across the country expressing their sorrow and support.
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said Washington Governor Jay Inslee. “Our hearts are with Whitney Decker and everyone impacted by this unimaginable loss.”
As the manhunt continues, investigators urge the public to report any possible sightings of Travis Decker and to remain vigilant.
