BREAKING: U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver Indicted, Faces Up to 17 Years in Prison

NEWARK, NJ — U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver has been formally indicted on three federal charges for allegedly assaulting and interfering with federal law enforcement officers during an incident in New Jersey.

U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced the indictment via X (formerly Twitter), stating that a federal grand jury in Newark returned a three-count indictment charging McIver with “forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officers.”

According to the Department of Justice, the charges carry a combined maximum sentence of up to 17 years in prison—8 years each for the first two felony counts and 1 year for the misdemeanor third count.

“As I have stated in the past,” Habba emphasized, “it is my Constitutional obligation to ensure that our federal partners are protected when executing their duties. While people are free to express their views for or against particular policies, they must not do so in a manner that endangers law enforcement and the communities those officers serve.”

McIver has not yet issued a formal response, but sources close to her office suggest she intends to fight the charges.

The case marks a rare indictment of a sitting member of Congress and could have significant legal and political implications.
