According to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), flight DL446 departed from Los Angeles at 1:23 p.m. on July 18, scheduled to arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. However, just minutes after leaving the runway, the left engine of the Boeing 767-400 began to emit a large flame, forcing the crew to perform emergency procedures to return to LAX and land safely at 2:06 p.m.

A video posted on the YouTube channel L.A. Flights captured the entire terrifying moment, when flames erupted from the left engine just seconds after takeoff. In the video, the cameraman - identified as Josh, co-owner of the channel - exclaimed: "This is not good at all!", as he witnessed the increasingly fierce fire.

Immediately after the plane landed, many fire trucks and airport emergency vehicles immediately surrounded the plane to check and handle the situation. Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident.

Delta said the plane was carrying 226 passengers and nine crew members, including two pilots and seven flight attendants. All passengers were safely evacuated and then rescheduled to another plane to continue their journey to Atlanta.

"Delta Flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after takeoff due to a warning of a problem with the left engine. The crew followed proper safety procedures and returned the plane safely to the gate. The safety of our passengers and crew is always our top priority," Delta said in a statement.

The airline added that Delta's engineering team and local firefighters immediately conducted a technical inspection of the plane after the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the cause of the engine fire.

The incident caused panic among many passengers, although there were no casualties. On social media, some passengers said they felt unusual shaking as soon as the plane left the ground, and shortly after heard a loud noise coming from the left wing.

This incident continues to raise concerns about the safety of older aircraft such as the Boeing 767, which has been in service for many years in the aviation industry. In the context of the US aviation industry facing many criticisms about maintenance delays and a shortage of technical personnel after the pandemic, the Delta incident has attracted more attention from the public and aviation authorities.

Delta Air Lines is currently one of the largest airlines in the US, headquartered in Atlanta. The Boeing 767-400, the aircraft model that had the incident, is a twin-engine wide-body, often used for transcontinental and international routes. Despite its age, many of the aircraft in the fleet are still in operation due to their large carrying capacity and long flight range.
